The False Economy of Ownership
"The hidden costs you weren't told about"
Most of the current offerings are supplied as 'Off the Shelf', many companies prefer this gaining comfort through the ownership and hosting of the system. However there are several hidden costs to evaluate first:
Initial Outlay
Many of the current systems cost in the region of £20,000 to purchase. Print Evolved charges a minimal registration fee of only £50 for early subscribers.
Upgrade Costs
As Print Evolved is a centralised online service, when we upgrade everyone benefits. Even with our offline software for print automation we supply free upgrades. See Print Evolved Quark Xtension 2.0
Staffing Costs
Following the 'Soc' methodology we avoid the need for over skilled staff. See Print Management Summary.
Server and Server Upgrade Costs
By using a hosted solution you pass on responsibility for ensuring your application is on a machine with significant capacity in both processor and memory terms. You also avoid additional high skilled staffing costs for server maintenance.
Contingency Costs
Print Evolved has 3 levels of backup. RAID, a daily network backup and an offsite backup. For an individual company to implement this level of security would be very costly.
Internet Bandwidth Costs
As well as owning a 'copy' of the software to run a system companies sometimes host the web servers internally, to further extend their ownership. ADSL is a low cost and ample connectivity solution. However it has a very low upload bandwidth speed, therefore to host your own server requires a leased line connection. Leased lines are however very expensive.
File Transfer Costs
Almost all print e-procurement systems are insufficiently networked. In most cases your administration team would have to download orders individually and forward them onto the relevant print supplier. Print Evolved avoids laborious, costly steps like these by automatically filtering print jobs into the correct printers online print queue.
Print Production and Complexity Costs
Each printer may have one or more Print Management customers and vise versa. Each system a customer uses to channel work to a printer adds a layer of complexity to that printer's workflow and therefore inadvertently ramps print costs. The Print Evolved system not only allows multiple printers and print management companies to communicate in a simple, unified and efficient way but it also automates many of the printers day to day tasks, such as batching. This therefore helps lower print prices, through overall cost reduction, allowing everyone to benefit. See The Print Network of the Future.
File Storage Costs
Having an online centralised data store saves most of the costs for internal file servers as orders can be viewed at any time directly from the web. Also due to the highly compact nature of our XML document description files a printer can download and store data for a million orders on a single CD. However, this includes the information to generate the quark documents only. The size of the reusable font and image data depends on the printer. See Compactible and Compatible.
Development Costs
An obviously benefit with an online service is the elimination of development costs. We have a customer wish list that we are constantly attempting to implement, an example being the latest Print Evolved Quark Xtension 2.0.
Print Evolved tackles all of the above problems creating a highly cost effective and scalable solution, with an extremely low TCO, suited to print businesses of any size.
