Power, Flexibility and Future Proofing
Through Standards
"The World Wide Web Consortium was created in October 1994 to lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing common protocols that promote its evolution and ensure its interoperability."
From the beginning Print Evolved has been based upon standards driven technology. What better way to ensure the continual advancement of a system, than have the entire global development community pushing your technology forward.
XML has been the central buzzword on the web for years now and deservedly so. Being able to apply structure and context to data enables you to model very complex information in a standardised way. Print Evolved has used this power and flexibility to it's full as data is sent to and from the web as XML.
Most existing solutions use the PDF format, we admit PDF has it's uses but it has several flaws:
- -PDF is a proprietary format, therefore has not got the backing of standard formats.
- -PDF encapsulates everything, making it bulky even when compressed.
- -Because each file contains a copy of the same data RIPs must reprocess the data for each order therefore slowing down the print process.
- -PDF files lack the same degree of context as XML.
- -Once a PDF always a PDF. XML is a highly transformable file format.
- -Using XML the Print Evolved system suffers from none of the above as well as benefiting from the advantages mentioned earlier and wide spread compatibility.
Compactible as well as Compatible
Our largest customer, with nearing 2000 templates, almost 40,000 users and over 250,000 orders can store all their data on a single CD. This of course does not include the reusable high resolution image data, although everything including image and font data fits on a single DVD. This helps make the system extremely scalable.
Standards in Software
Quark Express is the standard composition package throught the print industry. We have extended Quark Express's functionality to plug into our online system, thereby avoiding the need for additional software purchases and staff retraining.
We are an authorised QuarkXPress XTensions developer.
